Top foods and remedies to get rid of bad breath.
Here are some top foods and remedies that can help reduce or eliminate bad breath.
1. Water
Most importantly, it is very important to drink enough water. Dry mouth causes bacteria to grow and causes bad breath. Drinking water increases saliva production, which keeps the mouth clean and removes bad breath.
2. Crunchy fruits and vegetables
Apples, carrots, celery and pears: These crunchy fruits and vegetables act as natural toothbrushes. Chewing them increases saliva production and clears food particles and bacteria from the teeth and tongue.
3. Mint and other fresh herbs
Peppermint, parsley, coriander and basil: These leaves contain chlorophyll, which acts as a natural deodorant. Chewing them instantly reduces bad breath and makes you feel fresh. Mint is a well-known mouth freshener.
4. Fennel and Cardamom
Fennel: This is an excellent mouth freshener, especially after meals. Fennel has antimicrobial properties that help reduce oral bacteria and its fragrance removes bad breath.
Cardamom: Like fennel, cardamom is also effective in removing bad breath and bringing freshness.
5. Cloves
Cloves have antibacterial properties that eliminate bad breath-causing bacteria. Chewing one or two cloves after meals reduces bad breath.
6. Yogurt (Probiotic Yogurt)
Yogurt contains good bacteria (probiotics) that help balance the harmful bacteria present in the mouth. It is also helpful in reducing the levels of hydrogen sulfide (which is a cause of bad breath).
7. Ginger
Ginger contains an active compound '6-gingerol' that activates enzymes that deactivate bad breath-causing compounds in the mouth. Chewing a small piece of ginger or drinking ginger tea can be beneficial.
8. Green Tea
Green tea contains antioxidants called polyphenols, which inhibit the growth of bad breath-causing bacteria in the mouth and reduce sulfur compounds.
